Hello
All,
My name is
Dan Sekulski. I currently hold an Elementary Education K-6 Certification from
Juniata College. For the past two years, I have worked in the special education
field. My placements during the academic school year included working with
students in learning, modified, and emotional support in the Colonial School
District. I currently work as a certified instructional assistant in the
emotional support classroom. The past two summers I've worked at the Vanguard
School, an approved private school, as a Behavior Support Specialist. Working
in Special Education has grown my passion for working with students with
special needs.
Each student I have encountered in my short
career in this field is unique in their own way. My passion to help these
students meet their needs academically, behaviorally, and socially has grown
over the years. Nothing feels more gratifying then helping a student when in
need and seeing these students grow and excel at the skill you taught them. This
passion has led me to Cabrini College to pursue my Special Education K-8
Certification. I am extremely interested in expanding my knowledge on using and
implementing assistive technologies in the school setting. I have already
witnessed, in both the public and private school setting, assistive
technologies for students which help them meet their needs and succeed. Along
with assistive technologies, I am also interested in expanding my knowledge on
how to successfully create a classroom that is Universally Designed for
Learning. This ranges from the methods and way I teach as an instructor to the
engagement and understanding of lessons I provide to the students that meet all
needs. That is certainly the goal in a UDL classroom; to encourage and motivate
students that they CAN be successful!
I look forward to these next sixteen
weeks in Assistive Technology Perspectives!
